Today, May 9, marks precisely 65 years since Northern College opened its doors to 105 students from the Eastern Counties. The school's previous name was Sangre Grande Government Modern Secondary (3-year status), which changed to Sangre Grande Government Secondary within 24 hours (5-year status). Eventually, on September 3, 1962, the institution was renamed... Northern College... forever. Mr. Ralph Laltoo, the first principal, was instrumental in this change.
HAPPY 65TH ANNIVERSARY TO NORTHEASTERN COLLEGE, SANGRE GRANDE! Celebrating 65 years of academic, social, artistic, and holistic excellence in education because, as our motto states,
For many young people in the eastern counties of St. Andrew, St. David, Mayaro, and St. George East, the "pleasant seat of sweet learning" has been a ray of hope.
Serving a very large catchment area, Northern College was the only government secondary school in this region from 1961 to 1973.
